Meet Andy K in Dresden
Last week I left Aarhus for a workshop in Dresden powered by Brücke Most Stiftung. The coolest thing was to meet two german urban artists - Andy K and WAK - who helped us with our work. Andy K (46) does street art long before the Iron Curtain Fall and has some wild stories about being an urban artist in the communist Eastern Germany. He was also breakdancing in '83, was part of a rap crew and he's currently also a DJ.
He is a freelancing artist in airbrush-design, grafix, graffiti and member of the Bandits Dresden graffiti crew since 2002.
Anyways, I was so fascinated by his work and characters.
You can find Andy's great stuff on the city walls. The style is very unique, so you can't miss him:)

(Andy K - wall piece at Spike, Dresden)
He used a lot of mixed techniques - paint, paste-ups, spray, newspaper collage etc.
He did this piece during the workshop reusing a huge canvas (unfortunately I only have this small picture:), called 'Thoughts are free'. Here's a small demonstration on how to use the paste-up:
Optic ninja
Santa
I 'stole' a small image of a personnage from the sketchbook he used at the workshop. Nice one, huh?

The thief of Godsbanen
This one is huge - it represents a thief and it's made of...adhesive tape. Oh yes, about 5 meters height, the drawing looks so cool.
Once you approach, you notice that the thief who sticked at the entrance of Godsbanen A has the perfect key for the door in his right hand and a huge card on his left. Once he will dissapear, he will probably be rich as a sticker...Just sayn'.

Fortunately, the CCTV also spotted him.

Danish angelic statue humour
A classic but nice art intervention in Aarhus - the little devil turns to angel with a little help from artificial wings. How angelic is that?

Abandoned train station in Aarhus transformes in graffitti squat area
Just after the Østbanetorvet station, if you take the walk in the direction (near the sea) to Den Permanente beach, it is likely to meet the abandoned station, looking pretty haunted:)
I entered this building on a sunny day. From the outside I could see some skate ramps and a lot of thrown wastes. But inside I found a different world than expected, it was not the usual place teens hang out.
Welcome to the old train station! The dust smelled odd and the garbage around it was almost everywhere. I had the feeling that I was the only survivor of a tsunami. But the place kept evidence of people living here. There was so many spray paint on the neglected walls. To my surprise, no droppers around. But the place is a mess, looks like so many people wildly dance and draw their hallucinations all over every night...
Although the place is not the most hospitable, you can't be somehow fascinated by it. The wall above reminded me of Basquiat, or better said 'Trashquiat':) So many colours and shapes...
I got out for some fresh air, going in the back of this surprising building. I found an open door and hesitated for a while to enter. But I found out later there was no one there. Just more chaotic graffitti.
Inside there were some places to seat - pallets and old sofas, the perfect set up for a trashy party with crazy friends.
Anyways, besides the fact that it was unexpected to find this place in Aarhus, on my way to the beach, I would like to meet the people who get crazy in there. Seems quite fun, huh?
Saw, the movie?
LOL

The Monster in the passage
A giant monster guards the passage at Fredens Torv to the main shopping street in Aarhus. He is about 3m tall and has very nasty eyes/ looks for the passer-by.
In and out of the box
These days I have been quite active in the urban planting project Adopt-a-Box in Aarhus, at Godsbanen. Very fun and instructive, if you want to take a look before these boxes will be all over the city, come & see it at Sustainability Festival.
