Organic graffiti video?

I shot this near the harbor on a sunny day a few weeks ago, with a phone camera. It was all spontaneous - the butterfly 'drama' happening near the wall where someone sprayed the 'Blod' word. The atmosphere was quiet, though in the insect micro-world there was struggle. A loud fight for surviving. The spider won.

Music was also needed ( extract from Planningtorock 5 min mix: Darwin like variation on different vocal expression and styles.) Editing is minimal.

Political art: see what the prime minister of Denmark has to say on a wall in Aarhus...

A political means of expression - the prime minister of Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, depicted on a wall, vomiting some strange words graffiti style. On the other side, seems the Queen has something to say...

Exploring the Northern Forest

Expedition 2: To The North! is the latest temporary exhibition from En Hemmelig Klubs (A Secret Club) in Aarhus.

If you were lucky enough to visit it last Friday, you could find amazing stuff from northern spirit drawings to colorful zines, collages and lovely decorated tipi's for kids.

I was lucky enough to visit ‘Expedition 2: To The North’ and help with a workshop on Friday 14th December, stitching shapes to add to colourful paper huts that had been made in a previous workshop. The show itself had work from a group of really talented artists including Anna Walsh (Garudio Studiage), Rita Furstenau, Phuc Van Dang, Cendrine Rovini and Esther McManus - via Reena Makwana

Our favorite drawings & sketches started with a well-pointed question:

Famous local artists - MORMOR

Kristian Bruun Djurhuus alias Mormor is an Aarhus-based artist who started his career in an early age in the streets of his hometown. Today a lot of his pieces are experienced on canvas or paper and have been exhibited in Berlin, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Munich as well as in Copenhagen and Aarhus.

He also works with large scale wall paintings spreading widely over public and private spaces all around Denmark. Mormor believes that art is very valuable to life not only to the artist himself but to humans in general. He contributes by working with people, in spaces sorrounding people and telling the stories of people in his art.

The style of drawing is young, fresh and easy to recognize as an illustration by the hand of Mormor with its very personal expression: Buildings, cities, figures and several other images appear with the well-known line in various medias. With a playfull approach he keeps on challenging his media, exploring several techniques of painting and printing and never ending the process of constantly renewing himself as an artist.

I love to experiment and play with materials. To me it's essential to have some really strong ideas behind the pieces and try it out whether it's an illustration or a technique. I work with a lot of different people from private buyers to educational insitutions and art institutions. I suppose I just have this strong interest in people, creating art to the people and love to visualize their stories in my pieces.

Favorite danish urban artists - Rune Christensen

Rune is a self-taught artist.

''In my paintings I try to express the thoughts and feelings I experience in meeting with people and places in the world I move in.

The process begins with a thought about - and a sense of something indefinable that must be expressed. Often I take a lot of photos of people around me, looking at leaves, rocks, accounting and ends with some compositions that fit the idea and feeling I try to express in the work. I work a lot with patterns and colors, and has brought a lot of inspiration from my travels, mainly to Asia, where traditional costumes, decorating temples, prayer flags, etc. have had a great impact on my style and interest.

I work mainly with acrylic and Posca, and very fond of the expression as brushstrokes and illustration work together expresses.

I have spent the last 4 years traveling and travels have brought me to countries like India, Nepal, China, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Jordan, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Canada, USA, Indonesia, the Philippines, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia And it is from these travels, I find my inspiration.
Many of the countries I travel to is spiced with colors, scents, music and architecture which is us in the northern very remote.

It's hard for me to pinpoint what exactly is in a country that inspires me. It is often just the thoughts and emotions that arise in the meeting with the country and its people.''

Santa, is that you on the wall?

Rasmus made Santa appear earlier in the City Center of Aarhus. Only this particular Santa is doing some graffitti instead of bringing presents to children :)

So I kinda guess it's a nice present for those big children out there, don't you?
